The Economic and Social Council coordinates the economic, social, and related work of 15 UN specialized agencies, their functional commissions, and five regional commissions. It serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and for formulating policy recommendations.

The Trusteeship Council was established to oversee the administration of trust territories and ensure that non-self-governing territories were properly administered until they achieved self-government or independence. As of 1994, all trust territories have attained self-government or independence, and the Trusteeship Council currently meets on an ad hoc basis to discuss administrative matters.

The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the UN, and settles disputes between states in accordance with international law. It also offers advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized UN organs and specialized agencies.

The Secretariat is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day work of the UN, and is headed by the Secretary-General, who is appointed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council. The Secretary-General acts as the chief administrative officer of the UN, and is responsible for making sure that the organization's activities and programs are carried out in accordance with the directives of the UN's principal organs.

The UN has made significant contributions to international peace and security, humanitarian assistance, social and economic development, and the promotion and protection of human rights. However, the organization also faces a number of challenges, including insufficient funding, competing national interests, and the veto power of the Security Council's permanent members.
